Citizenship and Immigration Services may recommend Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) testing between family members when applicants have been unable to establish satisfaction that a required biological parent-child relationship exists.  DNA testing is the most accurate and widely available technology to prove a biological relationship.

An Embassy/Consulate may apply for DNA testing to our Laboratory for the above-mentioned cases.

Application

Upon email application A DNA sample collection appointment is scheduled. The applicant follows instructions in the email invitation and prepares documents for the DNA appointment.

The applicant, and any other persons to be tested, appear at the Laboratory on the appointment date at least 30 minutes prior to their appointment.  All individuals being tested must present a valid ID; passport preferred.    Original birth certificate is accepted for children.

Applicants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.  A guardian must have an original, notarized Power of Attorney form signed by the parent or legal guardian, giving the guardian authority to sign documents on behalf of the minor(s) providing samples. The guardian must also bring an ID.

Biological samples are collected for DNA testing.  After the DNA and typed, the results are sent directly to the Embassy/Consulate unless differently stated.

DNA Tests will follow a strict Chain of Custody in the collection process and all DNA samples will be processed.

The DNA testing may take 6-8 weeks to complete.
